About Us

Earthdog Denver is a family-owned and operated company which includes James, Irina and their college-bound daughter Diana, a fall engineering student.  James is a retired lawyer who renovates houses in the surrounding Baker Historic neighborhood and Irina is a chemical engineer.  Irina grew up in the USSR and she and Diana immigrated to the US recently from Turkmenistan where Irina worked as a consultant to the oil and gas industry.  We live across the street and walk to work. Our goal is to create an environment where dogs and people can have fun and where dogs have an opportunity to learn.  We are joined in this endeavor by a great team of men and women who we will highlight in this website.

THE PROPER POOCH by Emily

Emily runs her professional dog training business at Earthdog Denver.  She has an extensive background in service dog work along with private training.  Her National K9 “Master Trainer Program” certification includes intensive training in basic obedience, tracking, protection and service dog work.  She has a degree from the Assistance Dog Institute and she is a “No Limitations” certified remote collar specialist.

OUR PHILOSOPHIES

Customer Service  We believe in Mahatma Gandhi’s maxim posted on many government office walls in India: Who is a customer?  The customer is the most important visitor on our premises.  He is not dependent on us.  We are dependent on him.  He is not an interruption of our work.  He is the purpose of it.  He is not an outsider in our business, he is part of it.  We are not doing him a favor by serving him.  He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.

Education, training and discipline  We believe that most dogs and dog owners would be happier if their dogs were more obedient.  While Americans love their dogs, they often do not train them properly leading to unhappy owners and uncontrolled dogs.  We are currently developing a variety of training courses for dog owners.  All our “pack leaders” are experienced dog handlers.  We do not let our dogs get away with bad behavior and we will not hesitate to correct them when needed.  We have studied how dogs think and we use behavioral control techniques that emulate those used by dogs in packs to control and discipline unruly members of the pack.

Environmental impact  We are a green company dedicated to decreasing our carbon footprint and for that reason we will constantly assess and reduce our energy use.  We will replace single pane glass with double, replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent, replace all dead street trees and shrubbery.  Our family has two cars for the three of us and both are small cars.  We live in a 1200 sf house and since it is across the street we walk to work.

Charity for dogs  We will make ongoing contributions of funds and service to dog charities.  We host rescued dogs for adoption. One dog was recently adopted. Another brown Labrador retriever is going through our balance dog program. We will hold fundraisers for local charities and contribute to a shelter in Nicaragua where James has worked and has friends who help Nicaraguan dogs.
